Bios of Interviewees for Mexico '68
 

MARTA ACEVEDO was a biology student in 1968. She has dedicated her life to women’s rights and childhood education in Mexico.

SERGIO AGUAYO QUEZADA headed the first team of  researchers to access the Mexican government’s secret archives in the late nineties. The result was ground-breaking book, Los Archivos de la Violencia.

ALEJANDRO ALVAREZ BEJAR was a young student of Economics in 1968 and describes the student movement as his political baptism.

ANTONIO AZUELA was a sociology student at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 1968.

MIGUEL BRESEDA arrived to Mexico City in July 1968 and quickly joined the student movement as a 17 year-old high school student. He currently lives in Mexico City.

JORGE CASTAÑEDA is a renowned public intellectual, political scientist, and prolific writer.

ROLANDO CORDERA was a young teacher of Economics at Mexico’s National Autonomous University (UNAM) in 1968.

KATE DOYLE is a Senior Analyst at the National Security Archive (NSA). She is the Director of The Mexico Project and has been researching the events of October 2nd 1968 for twelve years.

DENISE DRESSER is a professor of political science at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM). She served on the Citizens’ Committee in charge of investigating Mexico’s dirty war.

MARCELA FERNANDEZ VIOLANTE was one of the few women film students at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 1968.

DAVID HUERTA was a high school student in 1968. He is now a renown writer and poet in Mexico.

MARIO NUÑEZ MARIEL was a student representative in the National Strike Council (CNH) during the student movement. He has been a political consultant to Mexican embassies all over the world.

GUILLERMO PALACIOS was a student representative from El Colegio de Mexico in the National Strike Council. He was arrested and jailed on October 2nd 1968.

MARCELINO PERELLO VALS was a student leader in the movement's National Strike Council (Consejo Nacional de Huelga). After the October 2nd Massacre he was forced to leave Mexico.

ELISA RAMIREZ was very active in the student’s movement in 1968. After October 2nd, she left Mexico City for Oaxaca where she promotes indigenous rights through arts and culture.

MARGARITA SUZAN was one of the most active women during the student movement in 1968. The events of October 2nd drove her to dedicate her life to socially committed filmmaking.
